Protection from surges

Computers and other electronic devices will be protected from surges and most distant lightning strikes with surge protectors, but a direct lightning strike will still damage the devices if you do not have lightning protection systems in place. You will be protected against random power spike damage with a surge protector when there are sudden peaks of electricity. You cannot protect your appliances from damage without proper protection from surges.

Surge protectors themselves don’t consume energy. They monitor the amount of electricity flowing into the appliances they protect from surges, and they absorb extra voltage if and when it occurs.

There is a limited lifespan for surge protectors. Surge protectors typically last between three and five years, according to most estimates. Your surge protectors may need to be replaced every two years if your home is prone to frequent brownouts.

How effective are surge protectors for the entire house? Definitely worth it! Providing comprehensive lightning and protection from surges, the whole-house suppressor instantly blocks electrical surges from entering circuits. Hard-wired electronics, as opposed to those that are plugged in, cannot be protected from surges by plug-in suppressors.

Voltage spikes can damage electrical devices if they are not protected from surge protection systems. The surge protector attempts to limit the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or shorting to ground any voltages that are excessive.

Surge Protection Systems simply re-route a surge’s energy with the help of pressure-sensitive devices when voltage reaches a predetermined level. As long as the voltage is correct, current flows normally. However, if the voltage spikes or surges, the device kicks in immediately and redirects the excess.

If you have a computer, you should definitely use Surge Protection. The system contains many voltage-sensitive components that are very vulnerable to power surges. It is generally true that surge protection systems will extend the life of these devices, however, there is always the risk that a big surge will damage them.
